It depends on the weiner. Ball Parks taste better grilled. Nathan's, I prefer boiled. I don't know what's right and what is wrong.

Steamed dogs are perfectly fine. Ever gotten a dog from a street vendor? That's what it is.

I boil them to warm them and then drain the pan to sear it. Only with hot dogs that have natural skins though. Skinless ones just don’t wear right.

i associate the boiled type with cheap microwave food and american cuisine, whereas a properly grilled hotdog is barbecues and english breakfasts.

the taste and situations these exist within are so completely different there's no purpose in comparing them

my hotdog technique:

>hot hot pan, with a small amount of oil if any
>quick sear until a minute or two after it starts to split open
>pour in some water and cover it so it steams through until the water is basically gone
>take out the dogs and wipe up the leftover gunk with the inside of the buns
