I've been an average person for about 80 years and I am in the top 10 percentile of health, for my old age according to my doc.

BUT he still eats his vegan foods mostly of soy & TVP. He never had his generation go to war like I did and he is pretty ignorant about healthy eating. I've been trying to teach him how to be a better person, but he is almost proud of his ignorance and refuses to change.

Is there any way I can trick or force him to give up him vegan cooking that is turning him into a woman? For her own good, because she literally doesn't know any better.

I'd like to come back to this argument. Say you are driving home, and you hit the dog that your neighbor's daughter raised from a puppy. So, she comes out crying and wailing over this dog, as you kneel down and tell her that you didn't mean it. Is that dog any less dead? Is her heart any less broken? Your intention makes no difference in this scenario; the dog is still dead and you have still crushed a person's pet.

Now consider all of the animals living on farms and ranches that would never have been born outside captivity, as their bloodlines would have been cut short thousands of years ago by predators that we fought off. We bred them, grew them and raised them. All of these lives that would not have lived.

Just as you say, your grandmother may want to live as long as she possibly could. I'm sure these same animals (if capable of reason) would opt for a few years of life at least, instead of never existing at all. These animals, that are raised with an abundance of food, and protection from predators, and medical care when they are sick.

Absoloutely incorrect. There is a huge difference between actively trying to kill said dog vs. hitting it accidentally. The former implies some kind of mental disorder and murderous intent. The latter is a simple accident. Obviously the dog is just as dead both times. But there is a massive difference in the killer's mental state, as well as those around him or her.

Personally I see no problem with people hunting animals, assuming the kill is clean and they don't waste the meat. There is no life without death, it's simply impossible. In one scenario the dog is dead and everyone is sad about it. The killer probably feels horrible about it, is apologizing profusely, and will probably try to make amends. The owner and their family are sad about the dead dog, but they are probably understanding since it was an accident.


In the other scenario the killer is laughing like the murderous maniac he is, while everyone else has just realized that there is a psycho in their midst. The killer isn't apologetic and likely isn't trying to make amends. The owner and family are likley pissed as hell, and are likely getting law enforcement involved, assuming they don't just beat the killer's ass themselves.

State of mind makes no difference to the fact that the dog is dead. But the situation encompasses much more than the simple yes/no question of is the dog alive?

I went vegetarian in January and I really like it so far. I still eat dairy and eggs because they are a source of nutrients which aren't easy to get elsewhere and I occasionally have fish too. Main reasons are environmental and ethical, can't really rationalise some animals suffering what would be a crime for other animals when it isn't necessary. Vegetables + dairy is also more sustainable and uses less resources than veganism due to it using land suitable for grazing, but not crops and less imported products. I do feel more tired sometimes, but I think I will cure this with supplements and minor modifications to my diet in time.

Best thing has been reinvigorating my cooking which was stuck in a rut. Next has been gardening. I've been turning more and more space over to growing food, composting and I've found it interesting, kept me active and I've really enjoyed the fresh stuff I've grown. Just personally satisfyingly and a very different relationship to my environment, seasons and consumption.

My grandfather was warned about heart disease about 25 years ago and gave up red meat. About 15 years ago he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. He is still alive, but eats an insane person diet of raw fruits and vegetables with tiny amounts of fermented vegetables and fish. He is still alive though and otherwise healthy and active in his 80's. Both grandmothers are alive, one in her 80's other in her 90's. They are going downhill now, but until recently were indistinguishable from some old people I meet who are only in their 60's. My other grandfather died of progressive heart failure in his 80's. I think it is common for young people to assume all old people are dead and old starts at 50 or something, but I've seen grandparents have whole chapters in life from 60, 70, 80 and on. They've been old longer than I've been alive.

I've always had a knack and affection for math and physics and decided to study geophysics so I can either work in oil or ore prospection. The material was right up my alley, the pay is very good, the work seemed very interesting since it alternates between climate-controlled cushy offices and sometime months-long stints doing field work in everything from a remote mountainside to a fucking boat in the middle of the ocean. I also knew the degree included a good amount of programming and electronics, which was always something I wanted to do and ended up loving it. I got a full ride die to merit, no debt. I'm strong but a klutz and careless, so I would probably get myself killed working on a construction site, being an electrician, or whatever. College seems to have been the right choice for me.

That being said, I see every idiot and their mother go into all sorts of hot new degrees thinking they're gonna become millionaires. Not only do most of them drop out because they can't handle it, the ones who do never make it as far as they'd want and end up hating the shit out of their jobs, plus they flood the shit out of the market and it makes it that much worse. I've seen an excellent writer throw their dreams away for a failed CS degree and a job making websites that they fucking despise. I've had a friend who was a promising boxer morally forced into his mother's footsteps as a geologist, and ended up as a shitty cop. I've seen a guy who could wire a house at 15 go into electrical engineering and waste 5 years and go into deep debt only to end up doing what he should have.
