I've been a vegan for about a year and I am in the top 10 percentile of health, according to my doc.

My grandma, however, has diabetes, very high blood pressure (like 175/90, stage 2 hypertension), and heart problems.

BUT she still eats her traditional foods mostly of meats & fats. She never went to college like I did and she is pretty ignorant about healthy eating. I've been trying to teach her how to be a better person, but she is almost proud of her ignorance and refuses to change.

Is there any way I can trick or force her to give up her traditional cooking that is killing her? For her own good, because she literally doesn't know any better.

Any advice from fellow vegetarians? Some people are just stubborn and refuse to change, even for their own good. Help!

You don't.
Lead by example and that's all you should do I got my family to exercise by starting a routine myself (and doctor's advice helped) now my sister does yoga, my dad walks, my mother does water areobics and my brother has gout (still working on him and his wife but he was in shape in college so he knows how he just has to put in the work) all happened after I got in great shape after two years of working out 4 times a week

I'll copy paste this because I'm not gonna type all this

It is absolutely true that it is
almost impossible to be 100% vegan in this world - for example the production and
harvesting of crops does cause the death of animals like aphids, caterpillars, moths,
worms, flies, locusts - and even birds, mice and rats. Where this argument falls apart
is that it is used to suggest that if you can’t be 100% vegan there’s no point in trying
at all, or more to the point because animals sometimes die in crop production it is
therefore acceptable for us to breed, raise and kill animals intentionally.
What this argument really boils down to is intention. When we buy animal products
we are intentionally paying for someone to exploit and kill an animal, when we buy
plants we are not. If an animal dies in the production of plants that is unintentional
and as we can all agree, entirely regrettable.

no it is not, If someone was driving their car and they accidentally hit a dog, that would not be
the same as if they purposefully drove after the dog until they ran them over. The logic
behind the argument “it’s morally justifiable for me to pay for an animal to be killed
because animals sometimes die in crop production” is stating that morally,
accidentally hitting the dog is the same as purposefully hitting the dog, as it ignores
the intention. It also states that because animals are sometimes killed accidentally by
cars, it is therefore acceptable to purposefully run them over.

I am very opposed to animal cruelty. I simply don't think that hunting is cruel. There is no pain and suffering for the animal with a cleanly executed shot.

Now there are some "hunters" that engage in all sorts of reckless behavior: they waste good meat. They take bad shots that risk wounding an animal instead of delivering a clean kill, etc. those "hunters" deserve to die in a fire, and if you talk to any people who hunt you will find that most of them have a special distaste for assholes that wound game or otherwise hunt irresponsibly.

Oh, and I forgot my pic like a retard. These are incredibly dangerous to hunt.

Perhaps not according to the pedantic definition. But in the general use sense? Yeah, it's a fucking cult. Invisible guy? No. But "miracles"? Absolutely. You might not do this, but some vegans claim that their religious diet has all sorts of dubious and often times outright untrue effects, like reversing baldness and/or aging, curing all sorts of diseases including cancer, etc. Then when you ask them about how well it worked for Steve Job's cancer you get lots of excuses.

>>Also "cramming down everyone else's throat" give me an example of that
Some vegans, including online, love to call meat-eaters evil (or some other insult), and won't stop talking about their mysterious diet god and how everybody should convert and be like them. I'd like to come back to this argument. Say you are driving home, and you hit the dog that your neighbor's daughter raised from a puppy. So, she comes out crying and wailing over this dog, as you kneel down and tell her that you didn't mean it. Is that dog any less dead? Is her heart any less broken? Your intention makes no difference in this scenario; the dog is still dead and you have still crushed a person's pet.

Now consider all of the animals living on farms and ranches that would never have been born outside captivity, as their bloodlines would have been cut short thousands of years ago by predators that we fought off. We bred them, grew them and raised them. All of these lives that would not have lived.

Just as you say, your grandmother may want to live as long as she possibly could. I'm sure these same animals (if capable of reason) would opt for a few years of life at least, instead of never existing at all. These animals, that are raised with an abundance of food, and protection from predators, and medical care when they are sick.

Absoloutely incorrect. There is a huge difference between actively trying to kill said dog vs. hitting it accidentally. The former implies some kind of mental disorder and murderous intent. The latter is a simple accident. Obviously the dog is just as dead both times. But there is a massive difference in the killer's mental state, as well as those around him or her.

>> or is not ok just because one thing is illegal and the other legal?
Asking whether or not it's "OK" is a totally different question than asking whether or not it's cruel.

Personally I see no problem with people hunting animals, assuming the kill is clean and they don't waste the meat. There is no life without death, it's simply impossible. I could shoot a deer and eat it, or I could clear land (harming animals), start growing crops, control the pests (also harming animals), and eat that. But either way animals are dying.

away from your mother, be forcibly impregnated repeatably and each time you give
birth you will have your children taken away from you. You will be in unrelenting
pain, get excruciating infections and be abused by the people that hold you captive.
When you are finally too weak to carry on, you collapse before being dragged to
your own death, where you are hung upside down, have your throat slit and bleed to
death. Would you accept that life? Would you be grateful and say “thank you, how
kind. If it wasn’t for you I would never be given this wonderful opportunity!”.

Ah, now the goalposts have shifted to "results".
But anyway, I'll play.
In one scenario the dog is dead and everyone is sad about it. The killer probably feels horrible about it, is apologizing profusely, and will probably try to make amends. The owner and their family are sad about the dead dog, but they are probably understanding since it was an accident.

In the other scenario the killer is laughing like the murderous maniac he is, while everyone else has just realized that there is a psycho in their midst. The killer isn't apologetic and likely isn't trying to make amends. The owner and family are likley pissed as hell, and are likely getting law enforcement involved, assuming they don't just beat the killer's ass themselves.

State of mind makes no difference to the fact that the dog is dead. But the situation encompasses much more than the simple yes/no question of is the dog alive?

I went vegetarian in January and I really like it so far. I still eat dairy and eggs because they are a source of nutrients which aren't easy to get elsewhere and I occasionally have fish too. Main reasons are environmental and ethical, can't really rationalise some animals suffering what would be a crime for other animals when it isn't necessary. Vegetables + dairy is also more sustainable and uses less resources than veganism due to it using land suitable for grazing, but not crops and less imported products. I do feel more tired sometimes, but I think I will cure this with supplements and minor modifications to my diet in time.

Best thing has been reinvigorating my cooking which was stuck in a rut. Next has been gardening. I've been turning more and more space over to growing food, composting and I've found it interesting, kept me active and I've really enjoyed the fresh stuff I've grown. Just personally satisfyingly and a very different relationship to my environment, seasons and consumption.

I think it is common for young people to assume all old people are dead and old starts at 50 or something, but I've seen grandparents have whole chapters in life from 60, 70, 80 and on. They've been old longer than I've been alive.

This is why vegetarians are fucking retarded.

Your grandmother is old, not fucking senile. Your worthless liberal arts degree means nothing to her life experience.

Maybe she knows she’s unhealthy, but just want to enjoy life? Have you ever bothered to relate to her and her thoughts? You’re probably too far up your own ass to even realize that.

Neck yourself, you limp wristed faggot.

> My grandma's age is between 75 and fake-death, i shouldn't tell her how to live her last few years on this planet.

There fixed it for you. Would agree that being vegetarian has a amazing effect on lowering cholesterol as i'm one myself.

Doesn't do much for blood pressure though, my dad has the same diet as me and has a sky high blood pressure, removing coffee from one's diet would certainly help more.

So despite your ultra moral superhuman diet you’re no better than the average person who eat meat and never get sick and lives till their 90’s?

Just stop for a second and reflect on how retarded you are.

And those are likely caused by other things, like over consumption of sugar and bad fats, not eating meats and healthy fats. I'm not sure this is some elaborate troll or op is this stupid.

They're right though. Not with college being shit, but with you falling for the "college is the only option" meme and because you do seem like the kind that fell hook-line-and-sinker for some indoctrination.

I've always had a knack and affection for math and physics and decided to study geophysics so I can either work in oil or ore prospection. The material was right up my alley, the pay is very good, the work seemed very interesting since it alternates between climate-controlled cushy offices and sometime months-long stints doing field work in everything from a remote mountainside to a fucking boat in the middle of the ocean. I also knew the degree included a good amount of programming and electronics, which was always something I wanted to do and ended up loving it. I got a full ride die to merit, no debt. I'm strong but a klutz and careless, so I would probably get myself killed working on a construction site, being an electrician, or whatever. College seems to have been the right choice for me.

That being said, I see every idiot and their mother go into all sorts of hot new degrees thinking they're gonna become millionaires. Not only do most of them drop out because they can't handle it, the ones who do never make it as far as they'd want and end up hating the shit out of their jobs, plus they flood the shit out of the market and it makes it that much worse. I've seen an excellent writer throw their dreams away for a failed CS degree and a job making websites that they fucking despise. I've had a friend who was a promising boxer morally forced into his mother's footsteps as a geologist, and ended up as a shitty cop. I've seen a guy who could wire a house at 15 go into electrical engineering and waste 5 years and go into deep debt only to end up doing what he should have.

Also, I'm lucky to be the exception, but the "they try to indoctrinate you" meme is true, which is despicable even though I do agree with some of the things they argue for.
