Which is better, Chicago Deep Dish or New York Style pizza?

>> No.10529308

Left is a better pizza, right is a better casserole

>> No.10529319

>>10529305

They're both highly overrated. The thing about NYC style is that if you don't eat it hot and fresh it's pretty disgusting. Deep dish is actually really good right out of the fridge the next day, which is one of the most important qualities a pizza should have.

>> No.10529390

its always extremes with you amerifats

Why can't we just have pizza with a thicker crust than the left, but not so thick it is literally a pie or casserole ?

We have that; it's called pan pizza. We also have crusts both thinner than the left, i.e. St Louis style and thicker than the right, i.e. Sicilian.

>> No.10529407

You certainly could have that. But that's got nothing to do with the classic rivalry between NY and Chicago style.

The NYC vs. Chicago discussions aren't about practicality, they're about banter.

right is actually what flyovers call "hot dish". families sometimes have signature hot dishes they bring to gatherings and potlucks. It's a casserole with whatever they decide to put in it, a popular one has tater tots and ground beef in it. some families began making them with tomato sauce and cheese and that's how the deep dish (or hot dish) pizza was born.

Hard for me to judge. Closest thing I've had to a NYC style pizza was from Whole Foods. It was horrendous. Not just the flavor but the fact that I could not hold it and something about folding a pizza doesn't taste the same.

There are 2 big problems with NY pizza. First, it's largely become a McDonald's tier fast food, where the vast majority of pizza places prioritize speed, convenience and price over quality. Second, there's so much great food in NY that even if you buy one of the better pizzas, you can't help but think you're missing an opportunity to have something more delicious.

detroit style is pretty close to a sicilian, or grandma pie. thick crust, crunchy on the outside, airy and soft on the inside. the OG detroit style is cheese first, toppings and sauce on top, but most chains do it like your average pizza.

heavier/more dough than your average round, but not remotely as heavy as a chicago deep dish.
