The thing is I'm trying to learn. Sorry, not all of us were born a fruity faggot that was naturally good at cooking. Maybe I should have posted a meme thread about fastfood to look like I fit on this board.

Sorry, I was being snide on purpose.

Learning flavor profiles is pretty useful though. Knowing those pairings helps you come up with your own recipes.

Using an existing recipe to try something new is good too though!

>> No.10490061

Obviously it's better to fire from the hip and come up with your own shit.

That said sometimes I just want inspiration and/or want to reference ratios of ingredients and I have to read a tumblr-tier blog post on why Lemonade is a tasty summer treat.

No but seriously, don't bother with these shitty blogs, you're not gonna learn anything from them because most of the authors have no fucking clue what they're doing. You'd be better off learning classics and basics from Julia Child, Jacques Pepin and such. Disregard the ancient recipes no one's made for 30 years but do pay attention to the prep methods and ingredient combinations.

As far as food websites go, I like Serious Eats. Despite being kind of fluffy sometimes, they do have good techniques and recipes.

Serious Eats is good but that fucker Kenji overcomplicates things on purpose.
You want to get a recipe to make something today and he wants you to let shit rest for two fucking days for a miniscule change in taste.

I'm indifferent to the bitching when done part (unless by bitching you mean complaining it hurt or was uncomfortable or 'weird' in which case I like that)

I'm just confused that you seem to be implying "she lies there and does nothing" is a bad thing

ITT what are the best websites for finding reliably good recipes, for those of us who still like to use or read them?

personally I really like Genius Kitchen, usually their recipes are very basic but solid, they make a great base to add to. also in the same vein as this >>10491026 post, I like the King Arthur brand flour website, they post great baking recipes and I find that whoever they have writing those recipes is a really great baker.

I will never understand why people whine so much about recipes being bad and shit

You don’t need to follow any recipe to the letter. You cross reference them and look at pictures and shit to work out what you’re generally aiming for. It’s just common sense.

That assumes you already have some skill in the kitchen so you know what to change, and also that you're not a turbosperg who insists on following directions to the letter.

Both of those seem counter to the average /ck/ poster.

Ok, here's the thing about these blogs. If you look into SEO and getting their blogs to actually appear into search engines, they need to bloat up their mediocre recipes with text. It's unfortunate, but it's necessary if they want literally anyone to read their blogs. Social media can only take you so far.
I just scroll past and glance over ingredients and method if it's something I'm interested in making. I'm sure they have a pretty shitty bounce rate in that respect because of this.
