Why is this stuff so gross? It's a lot like JD.

I don't really know anything about alcohol, how is this different from regular crown? Says something about "mash" and I'm pretty sure the JD bottle says the same thing.

The real redpill is finding out that even expensive whiskey tastes bad. You want to like it by seeking out subtle flavors but at the end of the day when you stop trying to fool yourself you find that whiskey is just vodka with a hint of burnt oak. Good to warm you up but thats about it
Pic related will defend whiskey to the death

The truth is that whiskey and its derivatives, and indeed all hard alcohol (vodka, rum, etc), taste like shit when drinking them "straight." People claiming otherwise are just larpers who want to be like Don Draper or numales that have read too many Esquire magazines telling them what a "real man" needs to be like.

It's rye whiskey.
Rye is a different grain than wheat or corn and the end result will taste different.

>> No.10457273

I used to work at a distillery and that industry is fucked. A straight rye mash is a pain to deal so most rye on the market comes from one of two midwest chemical manufacturers who have the facilities to distill huge batches. Brands buy this liquor white and age it themselves. It's all the same shit.

Nope. Corn. Most whiskey is made from corn. Rye whiskey is its own thing. That's why it's called "Rye".

It's a "Canadian whiskey" which means it's a blend of several different grains, most likely with at least some portion of rye.

But it's not going to be anywhere near the 100% rye content of true Rye Whiskey, or the 90% blend of Crown Royal Rye.

All Whisk(e)y has what's called a "mash bill". That's a fancy name for the "recipe" of grains that are fermented to make the mash. Most whiskeys will be a blend of sorts but there are general trends. Bourbon is predominantly corn. Scotch is usually malted barley. Rye is...you guessed it...mostly rye. Rye is found in many whiskeys but usually not in a high % unless it's called "Rye". That's why the one OP posted is different from regular crown.

I'd believe it. Also the length of time spent aging and the conditions/containers used for the aging would make a noticeable difference in the final product.
Does that justify a difference in price if two brands each bought the same base liquor? That's up to you.

It's a cheap mediocre rye.

But is better than others at its price point.

I think that it got prominence because the whisky reviewer who gave it that rating was very sick of other types and found this rye novel.

they didn't expect for it to sell well at launch in canada, so they exported most of it to america and had little in canada
then it won some award and got a lot of attention, people lined up at stores to buy it and it sold out on the first day
then the next year it was properly stocked
