I switched to straight- and safety razors that use those blades instead of the Mach 3 about a year ago. You can easily get a good smooth shave with them, it's not nearly as difficult or dangerous as people think, and it's MUCH cheaper.
There's also a wide range of different blades you can use so you can find the type that's right for you. Dorco blades work for me. Feather are too sharp for my face but I guess there must people who prefer them.

I find Dorcos to be a bit average for me they're good for a cheap blade but i like the Gillette 7 o'clock range and the Sharks. I mainly use an old Gillette 50's Super Speed. Get a good razor a good blade a good brush and a good shave soap and you will have an excellent shave.

Feathers are my blade. I get the occasional nick but it's so tiny it's not visible in just a few minutes, like a pin-prick. I think good a good lathering and angle, and knowing not to apply any pressure, is the key.

Made the mistake of buying a Dovo Prima Klang about six years back. Fuck straight razors, or at least that company. I've got extremely tough wirey hair and I can shave better with some of my hobby knives than I can with that over couple hundred dollar piece of shit. They come dull and I can put a sharper edge on a cheap chef's knife than I can a straight razor?!
