In general Americans and Mexicans don't drown their food in hot sauces. Sure there are examples of people doing this, but I haven't found it to be the norm. A hot sauce is usually a condiment, just like ketchup, it's supposed to be used sparingly. In fact most Americans don't really like spicy foods or sauces.

I have never encountered anyone that eats their tacos with ketchup, nor have I ever seen ketchup as a condiment in a Mexican eatery. I'd also say judging by the responses here, that it seems to be a very uncommon thing.

So far beyond "regular" hot sauces or peppers that it's pretty much cherry picking edge cases. Same goes for those google results. There are some stupidly hot peppers out there, and yes they can lead to harm. But again they are very far from what most people that like hot sauces would consider edible.

Usually never spicy, you have to ask for kimchi if you dare, rice cooked with sake to sweeten it, anything spicy has big red labels since everyone knows red means spice.
