OP what do you actually know about Aussie cuisine? I'm sick of all the vegemite, meat pie & fairy bread threads. They are tasty and have their place but it's not even scratching the surface of our cuisine. It's like me saying a chip butty is brit cuisine or mac n cheese is American cuisine. It's the shallowest representation of that country's food.

The shallowest representation is accurate in this case. For most of Australia's existence, the population continued imitating England in a craving for her approval. Not long after getting over cultural cringe, the multicultural project began in earnest. There was never a sufficient window of opportunity for white Australia to develop anything sophisticated of its own.

Also, macadamia nuts are from Australia, try some desserts/biscuits that have them or on their own either salted or honey roasted.

Try some kangaroo meat as well, tim tam biscuits, and golden gaytime ice cream.

Plus if you ever set foot in Australia, try cuisines from other countries. Due to the multicultural nature of places like sydney, the high quality produce and the push for good, authentic cuisine, you can get pretty good if not better foreign cuisine like you would in the native country.

E.g. You can get Wagyu beef for a decent price (still kinda expensive) in Australia since we raise some cattle specifically for wagyu.

I'm that one guy in Australia who doesn't drink alcohol so no wine sauces for me. Usually I just use a bit water to deglaze the pan, then reduce it, and that's enough for a delicious pan sauce. Sometimes I'll use a vinegar if I'm having carrots.

The texture can be tough but that can be fixed by salting it at least a couple of hours before cooking it, and ensuring it's at room temp before it touches a hot pan. I don't understand the science, it just works.

The flavour can legit be described (according to my palette) as spreading a bit of vegemite on a beef steak like butter on toast. To me it really does taste like vegemite. A bit.

If you see it a restaurant you might be offered tail meat which is a bit different to fillet steak both in flavour and texture (milder) but it's pricey.

An animal that hops around might pair nicely with a beverage made of hops, if you know what I mean. I don't because I don't drink alcohol, but oh well.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

I've noticed the same thing. I think it's related to the way certain demographics of people in australian society, I'm talking the higher educated or moneyed type - when they say the word 'mate' there's always a slight pause or awkward inflection and you can just tell they're forcing it for authenticity points, or to fit in. is lol. same thing happens online, you can watch two nerds battle it out with words but as soon as it starts getting heated, one of them will drop a MATE into the sentence to establish his true aussie bloke credentials. It usually comes across rather insincere though and is HUGELY AMUSING for someone as bored as mee

i understand that you're now refering to yourself in third person, which is weird and you know it.

australia's cuisine is ever evolving, and we have very few traditions when it comes to food, and just as few original dishes that we can claim as our own. and even most of those can be traced back to other countries. we just bastardised them and made them ours.

but fuck me i love a good damper when we're out bush camping. dad's got his secret recipe that he won't share but it's top notch tucker with a bit of butter and vegemiteas a side dish to the yabby stew.

Order a takeaway flat white at any Australian cafe, and you will get the same thing as you would have had you ordered a latte. There is just as much espresso in the cup, they top it up with the milk, and the cups are all the same size.

Sometimes when you sit in you will get a different cup with different proportions, but not the majority of the time.

I think Australian cuisine can be summed up by #1 cooking show here.
When two groups (of about 12 people each side) had to go choose two people from each group to cook ‘Aussie food’ as the theme, it was the two asians on each team that went head to head.
