No, but your body will try to hold onto calories more than usual on some medications. Look it up fella.

There's a reason doctors will take you off medications when you have a reaction like that; it's hard to maintain proper weight and get the required amount of nutrition if your body is insisting on storing calories instead of using them.

Ok Im fine with this on paper. It punishes those who can control their sweet tooth, but in such a fat epidemic that might be for the better.

But what if fatties figure out how to make sweet and unhealthy drinks for themselves? You gonna tax all sorts of sugar, even the raw stuff? That would lead to complications with people who just want to cook properly.
And even if you did that making some unhealthy milk fat milkshake abomination isnt that hard either.

And that will be their downfall.

Those economic systems work awesome is theres a large working class and a small number of non providers. When 90% of people are working, theres enough stuff to go around.

Now when you introduce a huge welfare state, a massive population that exists only to suck off the government teat, the system gets overwhelmed. So then the government leans MORE on the dwindling number of producers to pay for the rest. You enter a feedback loop that only ends with collapse.

yes, the body does generally follow the laws of thermodynamics, but it's incomplete to say that metabolism can be reduced to those rules. the difference in peak is probably about 500-800kcal for the worst cases, it doesn't justify fatties

I worked in the British Civil Service where this kind of thinking absolutely dominates and they actively are proud of 'changing the consensus of society on smoking' through bans on where you can smoke and higher taxation, similar with alcohol, etc

It's nonsense though; with the data I saw, all that's going on is that people are saying to the doctor they don't smoke or drink while in reality they're drinking like fish and puffing like chimneys. Sales of illegal, smuggled and untaxed tobacco is rife; every corner shop has a stash they sell to people they trust. It hasn't 'changed' anything except now people don't inform their doctors and buy smuggled cigarettes. Arguing against this is why I got sacked.

It's also starting to come apart at the seams due to demographic changes and is horrible for freedom of speech, etc. Unless you think a state that pretends that daily grenade attacks in a normal town on police is a normal thing that's always happened there is good. I don't buy fizzy drinks. It's a regressive, pointless tax that completely overstates the state's remit; it is not our father, it should not forcibly try to coerce new patterns of behaviour through taxation. If you need more taxation, find a way to increase business profits or cut your current provision of services. Ideally, do both. If I didn't include it, they'd ask why I considered myself intelligent (which I largely don't, but I seem to be doing quite well in academia). In addition, I keep my political views to myself because to express basic central liberal views on things like nation, the rule of law, etc these days is to be viewed in the same vein as a Fascist by the more hysterical members of the faculty and student body.

What do you object to? Someone who was elected on a platform of national interest, relaxing tax burden and more considered foreign involvement? Trump is merely standing for what were, broadly, centrist principles in the early 90s, even in my country. Or the fact that someone with a good MA and continuing in his studies can dare to not raise his voice against the current US President.

Where do you stand on this tax issue, anyway, bringing it back to the topic of discussion?
