What kind of diet are you on currently? Any self-imposed restrictions? Any foods that make you feel great/shit?

Lately I've been experimenting with keto to see if it helps clear my mind and lose water weight but honestly can't feel any difference after a week. Coffee doesn't seem to affect me either, so my body might just be unresponsive. Only food that seems to affect me with certainty is I fart if I drink milk.

I been doing keto for a month and got some results, my workouts got slightly affected by it but overall I perform around the same as I did with a normal maintenance diet, tho I get mad hungry from time to time

A lot of dairy is not keto. Way too much sugar. You also cannot experiment with Keto. You either condition yourself to prefer burning fat, or it favors carbs and stores fat.

I wasn't drinking dairy much at all, it was just a sidenote about the only food that is guaranteed to affect me. By experiment I meant I did it straight for the past week+, not on/off.

Basically, eat any combination of those up to about 60g and try to stay under 30g or so of carbs, then mainly stick to vegetables and fats:

Dark leafy Greens: spinach (high iron), kale, collard greens, brussel sprouts
Sprouts, raddishes, most herbs, bok choy, bamboo shoots, celery, mushrooms (high iron), cabbage, avocado, cucumbers, green beans, cauliflower, brocolli, bell peppers, zucchini, eggplant, artichokes, turnips...|
Sea weed - high in protein and some micronutrients, high in iodine
Garlic

Other tip: baba ganoush instead of hummus, pretty low carb

Yes, unbreaded, plain. The sauce I dip into should be negligible sugarwise. Only times I eat any substantial carbs at all is when I eat half an order of onion rings or fries, which should be <30g carbs.

Misc tips:

Shirataki noodles - I love these, they're (almost all) zero net carb, zero calorie pastas made either from tubers or tofu (I've also seen some made from spinach - very good!). Tofu-based brands are refrigerated and traditional style or spinach generally aren't. I cook them by draining the liquid, rinsing them in a colander, then salt and press out moisture with a towel, fry in a dry pan until a bit firm, then adding them to sauteed vegetables and a sauce and cooking until the noodles take on enough flavor.

Spaghetti Squash - Another awesome low-carb noodle alternative; per cup, 8g net carbs (2g fiber, 4g sugar), no fat and 1g protein.

Black Bean Spaghetti - Harder to find, but per-serving roughly 5g net carbs (12g fiber, 5g sugar), 25g protein, 2g fat (1g saturated)

Zucchini - Slice it thin to use as pasta for example, easy to find, per cup it's 4g net carbs (1g fiber, 2g sugar) and 2g protein

Eggplant - Use it like Zuccini for noodles (e.g., in casserole), slice and try making french fries, or slice into rounds, salt and press (like you would with tofu), brush with a bit of canola oil and bake until crisp, use as a "crust" for mini-pizzas.

Cauliflower - Good for replacing potatoes in mashed potatoes, or for use as rice, or sliced/seasoned/grilled and used as a bun. Per cup, 2g net carbs (3g fiber, 2g sugar), 2g protein.

Stevia - If you're craving something sweet, stevia is arguably the best non-caloric sweetener available. If you search medical literature, there is some evidence to suggest that it may protect against diabetes, and in general is well-tolerated.

Silken Tofu - Generally has no carbs, and is an awesome base for low-carb desserts. Try mixing it with sugar-free cacao powder, liquid stevia, spices, and a sprinkle of salt, blending until smooth, then stirring in some diced almonds or other nuts and low-carb berries.

Yeah, it might be genetic susceptibility to type 2. It might be that recombinant dna insulin functions slightly differently than natural insulin. It might be that most people only get so much carbohydrate metabolism in their lives. I can tell you I never particularly overate in my life, but my insulin requirements kept going up over the years. The good thing is that your insulin resistance probably isn't fucked. That diet has a really fast effect on borderline type 2 diabetics and obese people because it calibrates insulin response (suppressing hormonal hunger). You still have to eat fewer calories. I used to be pretty nuts and do a modified low calorie protein sparing fast. Eventually it was less of a low calorie diet, but more of an intermittent fasting routine. Like I'd drink 25g of whey protein with water in the morning and fast until the evening when I'd eat 2,000kcal of meat. I'd avoid carbohydrates except post work out when I'd have 300-400kcal of them in one go. I lost 115lb while getting thick, tight and solid over two years. I had a lot of problems shitting blood and not getting enough fibre until I added a fibre supplement to my diet.

These days I'm vegetarian. If you can cook it is pretty much the easiest diet to maintain weight and health. One of the things I like about it is it forces an adjustment in your attitude towards food.

Keto. Brother has shown a lot of weight loss, so I'm going to try it. Already had three eggs, two and a half pieces of bacon, cheese, two tbsp heavy cream, two italian sausage links, and a cup of chopped broccoli. Still have dinner and a snack to deal with. Already feel like I'm set for the day.

Only thing about it is I have to get electrolytes, but that's easy. Been using a Mio Fit, and just have to drink 4 drops a day. 2 mixed in with my morning water, 2 mixed in with my night water.

Also have to drink a fuck ton of water because of the amount of sodium I'm taking in.

One thing I'm curious about though... How does smoking affect a diet? I know it can help with weight loss in a way, but otherwise I don't see any way it negatively impacts your diet. Inb4 fearmongering.

I've been wondering about some things and hope to get some insight on how healthy my meals have been.

For breakfast, I either get:
>1 1/2 cup old-fashioned plain oatmeal
>1/4 cup raisins mixed in
>1/4 cup almonds mixed in
>1/2 tbsp powdered peanut butter
>Coffee with 2 tbsp creamer
>Two bottles of water

or

>One slice of double-fiber dry toast
>Two slices of bacon
>One over easy egg
>1/4 cup of old-fashioned plain oatmeal
>Coffee with 2 tbsp creamer
>Two bottles of water

For lunch, I either eat:
>Chicken Stir-fry
>De-boned and trimmed chicken thighs, onions, bean sprouts, zucchini, carrots, red bell pepper, spinach, minced garlic, dash of soy sauce, fried in coconut oil / canola (coconut oil was a gift and still don't know how to use it)
>Garnished with some sesame seeds

or

>Chicken soup
>Onions, bean sprouts, zucchini, carrots, spinach, broccoli, garlic, ginger, salt, pepper, chicken stock and all simmered together
>Garnished with a sliced pan-fried chicken breast

For dinner, I usually get either:

>Leftovers from lunch

or

>3 homemade slider patties (ground beef and pork blend 80/20 lean/fat)
>Salt/pepper/garlic powder/worshitshire sauce mixed in
>Onions/green leaf lettuce/thick-cut tomato
>Wheat rolls for buns

or

>Crispix in almond milk

For snacks I just have
>Fruit
>Jerky

Ultimately, my goal is to lose weight going from 190 burgers to 160 burgers. However, I want to eat healthy and just focus on calorie counting instead of relying on some meme diet like keto again (which I did lose an insane amount of weight on [270 to 190]). Your body has to convert everything you eat to sugar. Humans run on glucose. If you eat a lot of sugar, your body burns that and stores fat. If you deprive yourself of sugar (carbs) your body shifts into a fat burner. You can eat all the fat and protein you want, and because your body has to work harder to convert it, it stops storing it and you can eat vastly more food without gaining weight or feeling like sluggish shit. This state is called ketosis. It is somewhat hard to maintain.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is a metabolic runaway trainwreck scenario in which your body is essentially eating itself alive. Dietary ketosis is a very low-level, controlled metabolic process in which your primary fuel is ketones converted from fat. Keto is a spring shower that waters the garden. DKA is a cat 5 hurricane that kills the whole yard. A lot of the early fears about the ketogenic diet came from its similarity to diabetic ketoacidosis. I do keto. Works great.

Anyway, welcome to the club. How high was your blood sugar when they admitted you? My personal record is 650 mg/dL.
