Geneva and Zurich are the most expensive places in the world. So yeah it is that bad.
It IS worth visiting imo if you like nice vistas and history.
If you want to stay for a long time try to stay in a inexpensive canton like Schwyz or Appenzell, but even then it will be more expensive than most places on earth.
Skiing will cost you an arm and a leg if you go to Wallis or Jura. Try to go to neighbouring Tyrol in Austria instead, just went skiing there for the holidays and it was really nice (Stubaital specifically)
