I got invited to a BBQ this last weekend. I was told to bring food potluck style and there was a sign up sheet. I ended up telling myself bringing sides would be the best bet as meat seemed covered by the host. I ended up making and bringing:

>potato salad
>macaroni salad

Thought these were all classic BBQ foods and they ended up pretty good. I ended up overhearing people making fun of me and my food. Apparently the food was fine but they made fun of me for making everything vegetarian. I did it because I thought we'd have plenty of meat anyway with everything on the grill. It just floored me and honestly I'm not sure how to feel about it even now.

So I normally do a thanksgiving test run in mid october. Basically I cook a thanksgiving meal for my family over the course of a week in smaller portions with everything but the turkey.

I am planning what I should add to my thanksgiving menu this year. What I am looking for are things not normally on most american tables, but that are thanksgiving or fall classics, things that fit the season. For any more unusual meats I have a specialty butcher's shop in town that can get me most things Sold me beaver steak under the table, honestly I thought selling beaver meat commercially was illegal but he might have just been hiding it because he only has a small amount..

So what should I try this year?

how do we counteract this? Beer is another story but when you drink hard alcohol it gives you that noteable warm feeling from inside
