right. I should have said omnivorous, but I wanted to emphasize the eating of live animals like other carnivores do.

The point about people eating grubs and such if they have done it all their life is probably the real answer. But I wonder if there could have been evolutionary pressure this way: humans who thrived on catching and ripping apart live food might have found that the easiest prey was young humans? While you still had to deal with parents, that might be a reason that most humans don't have any instinct to eat live animals.

Think about murder, for example. Few people are raised from birth to be comfortable with killing humans, but lots turn out that way "naturally", and lots more get used to it from military service. But very few humans in developed societies eat live animals, as far as I know.
