I'm late to the party but here's how I do it, always with perfect results.

Get a pic related.

Bring water to a boil, no salt, vinegar, whirlwinds or any of that shit.

Crack the egg into the strainer placed over a bowl or something, then shake it around a little bit to get rid of the watery white.

Into the pot.

3.5 minutes and take it out, sprinkle with salt and off you go.

I used to prefer soft-boiled or scrambled but once you get it down poached are the fastest, most delicious and require the least effort in making and for cleaning.
