I tried a bottle of pic related recently.
It's normal Glenlivet 12, but 46% un coloured, non chill filtered.
And it's strictly worse.
NCF is a meme, and 6% doesn't make a timid whisky not timid.

There's a few directions you can take.
Higher PPM. Personally I don't think you can really tell that much difference in the 30-50 PPM range.
Younger. It'll add a rougher edge and save you some cash to boot.
Higher abv. Lagavulin has a 12 year old cask strength.
Go for a different type of peat. Imo Lagavulin is kind of ashy, but Laphroaig's iodine peat, Ardbeg's bonfire peat, Connemara's waxy peat all hit harder imo.
