Then why do restaurants have the bottles sitting out on the table in room temperature?

I'm having a quiet night in with my girlfriend in a few days and being the student (read:poor) that I am, I figured it would be much easier on my wallet to cook for her rather than order pizza or chinese or something. More personal, too. What are some nice recipes that will fill the stomach, satisfy for that evening and maybe still have some leftover for breakfast or lunch? Nothing is off limits as long as it is feasible in terms of cost and ingredient availability.
