I agree. To be honest it doesn't bother me much at all, a lot of the food I favour looks grim and I don't give a single fuk about it as long as it tastes good. However, if I was to serve it to guests i would've made an effort to make it look more appealing. I'll probably post my 2nd attempt here in a while, maybe it'll look less grim.
