I tried making bean burgers with mashed potato as binder but it's still the same consistency as mashed potatoes. How do I thicken it?

A good veggie burger trumps a good meat burger imo. The black bean burgers I get at my local restaurant are better than the kobe beef burgers I've eaten at fancy restaurants
