Not OP but I'll share my two cents.

I'm more than willing to try shrimp if it crosses my path, but that's only happened on one occasion and it just happened to be one of the worst things I've ever eaten. I'd give it a second chance considering it was made by someone I knew to be a questionable cook, but I felt that experience burned me so badly I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to try it if it meant I had to forego other food or spend any money.
The one time I did try it the taste was reminiscent of dirty seawater and it had a texture like wet styrofoam. When I bit into it there was just a little bit of give before it kind of burst and filled my mouth with juice, and I was left chewing on a stringy bag of gristle that I could barely choke down.
