The rural purge on TV happened where sitcoms with rural settings got canceled: Andy Griffith Show, Green Acres, Mister Ed, Beverly Hillbillies, Gunsmoke

Family sitcoms, sitcoms with big city living, and detective shows were on the rise: The Mary Tyler Moore Show, All in the Family, The Bob Newhart Show, etc.

Oh, and the low fat meme started around this time.
