got a trial shift as a dishwasher at a restaurant tonight. friday night for my first shift haha im fucked, never stepped foot in a commercial kitchen in my life. got any tips?

Its pretty unbelievable now that I reflect on this - dishwashing the evening shift, especially on weekends or fridays, was really a two man job since you need a loader and an unloader. What ALWAYS would happen is some back of house chef or front of house server later on would help you get out of the rush which was really not physically possible for one man to handle. In otherwords the cheap fucking restaurant- I'm sure this true EVERYWHERE is ALWAYS understaffed and is basically operating on a day-to-day basis on the good will of its workers who are willing to take on all kinds of additional tasks.

One HUGE unedianble advantage of unionised employment is that there are clear and enforced regulations preventing the cheap ass managers or owners from pulling this perpetually understaffed bullshit. Union jobs are boring for other reasons but they have the enormous advantage that the management absolutely can not fuck you over.

Protip: if your machine is like this, ie, not a straight feed though, DO NOT WORK THERE
