Chicago deep dish pizza is the best, but people outside of Chicago blast it because it seems overly indulgent. What they fail to realize is that, like milkshakes, pub burgers, or anything else large and fatty, you're not meant to eat it, every day. It's a now-and-then pizza with a lot of cheese, sauce, and sausage baked with a substantial crust.
Also, that's not the only kind of "Chicago pizza". "Chicago pizza" can just as easily be a pizza with a crust somewhere between thin and medium thickness, usually with a decent crispness or chew (enough so that it doesn't collapse under its own weight), with sauce (usually a little bit more than a New York style), and cut into squares. Common toppings are sausage, onion, and green pepper. Nine times out of ten, when I order pizza, that's the style I get.
