hey thats not a fuck up
ok the whites werent good, but that had more to do with the high moisture content of whites than anything else.
the dried yolks in a custom salt tray was a succcess, the browning on that one is because the salt has some bbq salt mixed into it

there were some actual fuck ups in the salt adventures though, pic related, massive plumes of smoke pouring out of olive oil soaked bisque fired salt block.
Salt transfers heat extremely efficiently, fast as the pan does, and since these are porous, the olive oil soaked in, and then tiny globs of oil were essentially surrounded by salt, giving an effect similar to if you took two hot elements and put oil between them, except all at once all through it, like a super heated sponge of sticky smoke spewing salt

I had to take a break during the experiments because of this and air the place out.

Probably not the worst i've fucked something up, but related to that pic

well the olive oil salt blocks were probably the worst idea i've ever had
oil soaked in and produced far more smoke than that amount of oil had any right to do
I think most of the runner ups are from the various salt experiments too

but the worst mistakes I hadn't done on /ck/ is probably when I tried making some simple drop candies where instead of flavouring the sugar, I dropped simple globs of unflavoured sugar into into various liquids
it turned into that red hot nickle ball shit pretty quickly, and while it worked, having a candy that is only flavoured on the outside is pretty shitty, but it's pretty cool in theory until you remember you can just spray them with flavouring afterwards to get 2 layers of flavour
on another candy experiment I tried using an oil instead of water for the drop, which worked really well but messed with the drop temperatures
this lead to me eventually trying with a thicker oils and made simple candy molds in butter and margarine to compare
everything tasted fine with these oil candies, most of them were good really
but the problem is I now had dozens and dozens of oil soaked sugar soaked bowls, dishes, cups and pie plates

this is one of the reasons I use a lot of pop bottles and cans now when possible
