ah i see, the only things you really need are a decent air lock and StarSan to sanitize everything.
word to the wise don't buy the air locks in picrel, they work but are LOUD which is annoying, the 3 piece ones are much better and also help prevent overflow from puking out of the top if your ferment gets a little too wild.

been trying but no matter what i do or change up i keep getting the same problem.
My mash keeps smelling like apple juice and its not really fermenting even after 2 weeks.
yes i have StarSan
tried EC-1118, red star premier cuvee and bread yeast and bloomed them all
i've used proper ferment K, DAP, energizer
homebrew methods like rasins, tomato paste and dead yeast hauls
changed my water source, filtered well, distilled, spring water
different sugars in case there was some kind of fungicide in the sugar killing the yeast

Thing is i was brewing just fine for years but all of the sudden i can't get anything to ferment

5 gal plastic jugs
10lbs raw cane sugar
1 pack premier cuvee yeast
3 tbsp yeast nutrient
5 to 10 days depending on the temp
racked twice over 3 days then charcoal filtered
leaving a bland yeasty apple juice flavor so i just add gal off apple juice.
its not good but it's drinkable

the problem is the last two batches stalled/stuck
normally it runs dry in about 7 days but im now at 15 days and its still nowhere near finished
i put nutrient and energize but still noting

take the home brew pill
picrel is 15gal of 14% ABV liver assassin for about $25
toss in a few koolaid packets to hide the flavor and make ugly faces while drinking it helps

there is a lot more to yeast then that
different yeasts eat different sugars, i use EC1118 because it eats everything and im trying for high ABV but for best taste brewers yeast>champagne yeast and for moonshine bread yeast tastes the best but yield is much lower

i doing that right now
you don't need to back sweeten on high gravity brews because you're starting with a crazy amount of sugar and don't typically run it dry
12lbs of sugar, 1 pack of champagne yeast and some yeast nutrient in a 5 gal jug give it 1 week then add in some koolaid packets BAM you got a 14% ABV homemade four loko
