There are literally hundreds of dishes native to the USA. I hate when people dismiss that saying "oh dish X is technically from this country" when regions of the USA like the midwest, southwest, Cajun, Cascadia, rockies have all refined tons of dishes.

However, I think one of the largest triumphs and failures for Americans culinary, is the food industry itself. It has allowed pretty much every spot in the US to have access to 'fresh' ingredients, ranging from fish, veggies, meats, dairy and specialty items, but in exchange for that, so much of that food is of fairly low quality.

Back about 100 years ago, during the industrial revolution, laws started being passed to insure the safety of products, and that still lingers in the form of heavily processed foods, that have to sacrifice freshness and flavor for public safety. tons of foods are pasteurized (dairy), loaded with perservatives (meat) and have a lot of pestices on them (fruits and veggies)

On top of that, add all of this into a corporate marketing culture, where businesses keep coming out with trendy products that make for some pretty gross combos of food (think aspic/jello in the 50s, dyed foods in the 90s, etc) and the fact that businesses love to make profits by loading corn or corn syrup into pretty much everything, you have a recipe for a lot of really sub-par food and eating culture.

funny thing is, a lot of Americans have no clue how to cook or eat correctly, things like soda is cheaper than bottled water, fast food is so convenient, many people eat it daily. If you want to see the worse offenders of eating culture in the USA: the south is going to have everything fired and coated in butter/sugar, and the midwest has some particularly unhealthy trends, like ranch dressing, sausages, casseroles and lots of beer.

I like chili's a lot. they have really good margaritas, and their fajittas are great, albeit kinda pricey.

most of their appitizers are good stuff, their ribs aren't half bad, they have good buffalo style food.

applebees is low quality crap. I guarantee most of you could make anything from applebees but better because they have things like melted cheese on steak and suger-fried chicken etc

TGFridays has some ok items: the last time I went they seamed to have jack daniels whiskey sauce in like, half of their menu items, but their burgers were good.

My folks used to go to Texas Road house for steaks: holy crap do I remember them paying for my prime rib and beer, that stuff was so good.

never been to a benigans.

ruby tuesdays used to have monster sized burgers, similar to red robins: both of those were pretty much equal in quality, and while not the best food, great to go if your hanging out with large groups of people.

I remember Outback had some good steaks and seefood but I haven't been there in ages because of my folk's bad experiences.

Lastly, I think Olive garden is pretty friggin' good. Maybe it was just the one we had: the whole place was decorated with archways and italian vines and wooden decor etc, but the food was always pleasant. couple glasses of red wine, some soup, a bit of salad and then your dish of heavy-cream sauce based pasta + veal and those breadsticks to mix the red-white sauces was... really great honestly. Same people seem to blast the place, I thought it was a neat place to eat with friends

George Webb breakfast (think a smaller Denny's with a smaller comfort food menu and a 50s diner atmosphere)

I had a medium rare steak with two eggs over easy and hash browns with wheat toast. I like to take the toast and make a steak sandwich with hash browns and a runny egg yolk on top with a little hot sauce.

Damn that was good, and with a few good cups of coffee it was an amazing breakfast.
