Where are you from? In Texas at most places it's incredible comfort food. But I travel a lot and it can start to get downright offensive as close in as Louisiana. In Pennsylvania I couldn't find good tex mex at all. I suspect it has a bad reputation here because your average tex mex restaurant far away from texas in my experience is awful and is not like what we have here.

If you can make it to Conroe, McKenzie's Barbeque off of 75/Frazier is fan-fucking-tastic.

It's not the greatest I've ever had, but their brisket and pulled pork are both very good. The bread they use for their sandwiches is awesome too.

Their sauce is quite good.

If you haven't had Rudy's, go for it. They're probably the best BBQ chain, at least that I've had. Good brisket, pork is meh, hot links are great. AWESOME creamed corn. Sauce is also quite good.

Dickey's is trash.

Corkscrew in the Woodlands is supposed to have phenomenal ribs. I'm just never up in time to go before they run out.

I'm a Texan and we don't hate Mexicans, we just don't like illegal immigrants. Texans and Mexicans share a lot of history and culture, any true Texan can't deny how much influence Mexicans have on our culture and heritage. We get along fine and have respect for each other for the most part. Even many legal beaners don't like the illegals coming over because of the crime they bring, the illegals are hurting many old established Mexican neighborhoods.
