Lazy man's rice pudding, I guess.
The proper way would be shortgrain rice cooked in milk and served with sugar and cinnamon on top. And a pad of butter in the centre.
Scandinavians eat it a lot around Christmas time.

I'm Danish and what I see in that photo is rice pudding with a butter pat and cinnamon. Very traditional Christmas food here, although not for the main event of course.
I figured the anon would be a fellow Scandi but I never say it called Christmas porridge before.

The way we make it is very simple; shortgrain rice and milk on low heat in a pot basically.
There's a variant used only as a dessert called risalamande (bastardised French) which is VERY Christmas related. Basically the rice pudding made from rice and milk mixed with cream and usually also vanilla and chopped almonds. Traditionally served as the dessert for the Christmas Eve meal in one large bowl with a whole almond mixed in. People scoop portions into their own bowls and eat from those and whoever finds the almond gets a prize.

That's the good stuff right there. I like to sprinkle a little bit of sugar and cinnamon on it. Reminds me of Christmas.

What's that even supposed to be? Rice pudding?
Don't put sugar in that. You sprinkle it on top at the end with cinnamon and a pat of butter.

Looks a lot like the sweet, dark, low-alcohol beers we traditionally have at Christmastime in Denmark and probably the rest of Scandinavia.
Pretty delicious but very fattening.

You use a different kind of rice for that. It's no good with basmati or jasmin etc.

Rice pudding and a nice sweet small beer. (I looked it up and this type of beer is actually called a small beer. It's a very dark and very sweet beer with only 1.7% alcohol by volume.)
