It's not cheaper than buying Coors lite ($0.069/oz), if that's what you mean. But if you're someone who buys a lot of craft or micro it can be way cheaper depending on how crazy you want to go with hops.

Assuming $40 for ingredients and yeast you're making 4.5 gallons of beer after separating trub/waste you're brewing beer at $0.069/oz vs. $0.138/oz for a six pack of beer ($9.99). If you're autistic enough to reuse yeast you can get the cost per batch lower.

If you drink cider it's way, way cheaper depending on whether you think a product made with store-bought juice is acceptable.
