Not that anon, but I grew up in the sticks of east Texas.

Some 15 years ago, I remember similar situations, I was about 13, going out with my dad on some section of land we owned on the big orange tractor with a brush hog and a backhoe to move dirt. We had a four-wheeler, too; still there, but it doesn't work so well these days. We would bring a cooler with some chicken, ice, and Sprite. After working in the heat, we'd set up a small grill on the tailgate of his truck and barbecue some chicken, eat it with chips. We would get a plastic cup of ice and sprite, and he'd pull out a big glass jug of sangria wine and put a splash or two in each of our cups.
