DBZ is very meh after Frieza, from a writing standpoint, not that it had much depth to begin with.

DB is much better in that regard for adventure, characterization and fights that aren't just

>"H-HIS POWERLEVEL?!? UNBELIEVABLE!"
>decent to bad fight choreography
>more yelling
>energy blast #4568 is thrown
>countered with energy blast #4569
>"Haha, I was stronger than you all along!"
>"NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

It's not good. The fights aren't imaginative like they are in DB, and it doesn't feel like a complete adventure with a sense of wonder. DBZ is almost a parody of itself that still takes itself seriously, which if you took off the nostalgia goggles you would realize.

It's also why Super is better, because it's a little more self-aware and satirical.
