but when you're broke and need to feed say 10 people sometimes your only option is a $1 loaf of bread and $5 for 2kg of pork sausages

we use plain white bread for our sausages. no-one likes or eats hot dogs in Australia.
plus it's illegal to server a burger in Australia that doesn't have shredded carrot, egg, beetroot and a slice of pineapple on it.

Aussies don't really eat anything special for breakfast. Maybe vegemite on toast (with cheese or avocado), or weetbix with milo on.

Get them over at lunch instead, fry up a few dozen sausages on a bbq and 1kg of onions and put it on slices of white bread, topped with tomato sauce. top right in pic related.
