They used to practically give soup hens away for free here and now they cost as much as a nice plump chicken for some reason.
I'd suggest just getting the chicken.
Good thread. Nice to see some actual cooking on here for once. I can't be bothered taking the pics and writing the captions myself anymore.

I don't use recipes, but you can't go wrong with a nice stew.
Cheap cut of meat, in season vegetables... brown the meat, add veggies, add any liquid although preferably wine or stock or maybe a dark beer, simmer. Done.

Or just throw a chicken and some root vegetables in the oven like 45-60 minutes and serve that with some rice.

I made it following the recipe from the Prophetic Game a couple years ago.
It was pretty good. Not as bland as I expected either.

Stews are cheap and easy to make. You don't have to actually stay in the kitchen and watch them simmer either.
You quite plainly put cannot go wrong with a nice stew.
You can recreate the coq au vin recipe from Deus Ex if you're a newbie. It's pretty decent.

Braised dishes are almost unfuckuppable. Maybe you'll want to start with some of those.
Coq au vin is easy and delicious for example, and you can make it with a couple of chickenlegs.
You simply cannot go wrong with a nice stew.

Coq au vin I suppose, but there's a fucking reason people keep telling you to grill them.

Neat. I might try making that at a later date.
I already made the coq au vin from Deus Ex and that was pretty good. Not surprising, though; can't really fuck up a nice coq au vin.

Coq au vin is easy and delicious and it's only as expensive as the wine you use. Try to use a fairly dry one.
I made it following the DE recipe a while back for fun and it's pretty good. I expected it to be kinda bland but it really wasn't.

Made this a while back with a few minor modifications. It was pretty good.
Can't really go wrong with coq au vin

I made this with a few slight modifications recently. Decent recipe for a newbie probably.

I am making this tonight, OP.
You could join me in the endeavor and be my chicken bro.
