Yes, I always put it in right off the boil in the tank, screw, then put on a preheated electric burner. I know I didn't screw it up when it starts making noises instantly.

I either slowly dump or spoon in my grounds. I level it out by taping with the side of my spoon. Keeps it from getting too compacted.
