It's certainly an acquired taste. I thought it was disgusting when I was 4, but later learned to appreciate it. For beginners, slice an egg into 8 pieces and serve it with some thinly-sliced pickled ginger. It's actually very savoury that way. Another good way to eat it is to have it diced small and mixed into some hot congee. It's similar to using fermented krill paste in your cooking- it adds a very deep flavour. Bonus points if you have some salted egg to mix into the congee/porridge. Hamburger americans don't know any better so don't let them talk you out of it.
