"White trash" and "rednecks" are different things.

White trash is poor, uneducated, anti-achievement, occasionally criminal or even violent. The often live in ghetto-like trailer parks and so are sometimes referred to as "trailer trash."

"Rednecks" are good folks, working class, patriotic, admire achievement, law abiding, and generally (though not always) churchgoing.

Neither one is necessarily "southern" either. You get both kinds in every state.

And also not to be confused with "hicks" "hillbillies" "crackers" and other distinct epithets.
