i had a pretty grim childhood, my parents weren't directly abusive, they were both just extremely depressed and hated eachother, so my brother and i were largely ignored and neglected. they seemed to really enjoy having dinner together, though, i think those were the times they felt like we could LARP as a happy family. i actually have comfy memories of dinner with my mom and dad and brother before shit REALLY fell apart and we weren't getting fed at all and they'd just send someone to the house once a week to see if we were still alive. i remember finally getting detained at school because a neighbor saw me sneaking out after dark to go through their trash to steal food. my mom showed up PISSED and said that they were lying and that i was just acting out because my dad left and we had plenty of food at home. i hadn't seen either of them in over a week. my mom took me home and told me to never talk to authorities because they would put my in a state home and i'd get molested every day. she saw that we didn't have any food in the house and that me and my brother had been eating takeout we pulled out of the trash and blamed our dad
