you wash or don't wash it depending on what are you gonna use it for.
if you want to make fried rice you wash your rice to remove the starch and cook a rice were each individual grain is whole and not stick to each other.
if you wanna make sushi style rice then don't wash it and your rice will become sticky and you wil be able to eat it with chopsticks easily.
