Humans are not animals.
First, every animals need others to live, if not, they're needed for other animals to live (aka food cycle).
Second, human is apex predator. Since we're not part of food cycle we can eat anything, and decide so. That decision is what makes us eat some animals, not what we need.
(Eg, if we need some nutritions from red meat, we still choose what meat-or even source it artificially)
Third, humans are not animals because we hold judgement-how we think, it makes us different from animals.
Fourth, morals are not applicable in predatory.
Fifth, animals behaviour isn't based on human interpretations. There is no truth that an animal, can be special except based on subjective opinion.
Let's see:

"Smart" is completely subjective opinions. There isn't any empirical proof to this.
>our best friends
Best friends are subjective. Heck, "friends" are subjective. It hold no basis.
Tl:dr it's not wrong to eat it, and it never should be.
