If you're that poor, canned diced tomatoes are cheap. You can add garlic and basil and olive oil and maybe chili flakes, or even fry an anchovy or two in the oil first to give it a richer flavor.

The reason poorfriends are always saying that their home made sauce is the best thing ever is that they're used to eating cheap jarred sauce with shit ingredients. If you want something that you can just heat up and have it taste good as-is, you need to stop being so stingy. Otherwise just a small amount of work is called for. Plain canned tomatoes cooked with a few ingredients, it adds a few extra minutes of shopping time but it saves your precious pennies at least.

Microwave people are the worst. We have one at the office and I use it maybe three or four times a year, usually when a just-purchased bottle of spring water is too cold (why do they keep them in the fridge?) and I don't want to wait for it to come up to room temperature. If I'm doing this at home I'll place the bottle in a kettle of warm water and heat it on the stove for a minute or two. If I have to use the microwave I feel rather dirty afterwards but this is mostly only when I'm in a real hurry and I have no other choice (like before an important meeting where they only have ice water in the conference room.)

Anyway, in terms of my home I haven't had a personal microwave in 8 years. I don't own a TV. Or eat off paper plates, drink from plastic cups, or use plastic knives and forks. Likewise electric knife sharpeners, pre-sliced american "cheese", and instant coffee. I don't talk on the phone when I'm using the toilet, or prepare food without washing my hands. Nor do I purchase or wear "non-iron" dress shirts, velcro shoes, or clip-on ties, or own a car that thinks it should decide instead of me, about what gear I want it to be in.

My life is better than yours, because I do not corrupt it with trashy things meant to brighten the vulgarity that defines the daily experience of horrible microwave-using people the thought of whose existence makes me want to take a cleansing bath right now, my natural loofah charged with a generous dollop of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap (using a blend of fair trade organic olive oils from both Israel and Palestine).

In fact, I think I will go do that right now.

>serrated knives for tomatoes

if you're that useless at sharpening, there are a lot of mechanical gizmos that make it pretty foolproof.

Why are Europeans so plebeian? First the french decide they don't want to cook anymore and now they can't tell if a pizza came from a grocery store.

>what the hell were you doing thinking Leinies is representative of Wisconsin beer?

I'll tell you how it goes.

1. Visit family in the twin cities, go to a bar
2. So, what's that beer with the L, is that some local thing?
3. Oh yah, that's leinenKOOgels, it's from wisKAHN sin
4. Gimme one of those please
5. My face

And from then on, that's the first thing when I thought of WI beer, no matter what. Pretty sure that's the case for most people.

I just got in argument with someone in an off-topic thread on /sp/ about ketchup on hot dogs

What are your thoughts on putting ketchup on hot dogs?
