OP, i have been where you are.
I kind of fell into it. took a dishwashing gig in college for beer money at an extremely popular and chaotic restaurant. After 2 nights they moved me onto the line and the rest is history. all told i spent 7 years in the bar and restaurant industry. I know how hard that life is. the money, the pressure, the hours, and the uncertainty. I almost always had 2 jobs (sometimes 3). mostly worked in luxury hotels and private clubs. plus a nightclub job on the weekend. i was pretty burned out by the time it all ended.

So i got into a junior position with a finance company and left it all behind. 2x the money, half the work.

>paid holidays
>no weekends
>no late nights
>no drug addled subordinates
>no server drama
>no insane industry drinking culture (i admit this was bad for me)
>good insurance
>401k matching
>no second job
>dat social life
>dat normal schedule

it hurts to think about this, but if i had made this move 5 years earlier i would be set. instead, well, times are still tough.

its not all cherry pie and unicorns in the normalfag job world either. a few months ago Bernanke and his jews started talking shit about Q.E. tapering. interest rates shot up and my department was liquidated.

So i have this daydream obsession with owning a hotdog cart. anyone here partake?

Fwiw, im not am amateur here. Im a veteran cheffag with almost 10 years in fine dining (mostly in private clubs and hotels) so im no stranger to the service industry.

I dont chef anymore, greener pastures and all, but i still want to keep one foot (or at least a toe) in food service because its kind of fun.

So im crunching numbers on a hot dog cart hobby business. still not sure if it can work. any operators here?
