I "get back into" whiskey every once in a while and will keep some mid shelf stuff on hand, but opted to up my price range a bit and grabbed a local 100% Rye on my last trip to the ABC. It was 80 freedom bucks but it's worth every bit of it, imo. Probably the most flavorful and layered whiskey I've ever had, though I have a pretty admittedly small range of experience (Woodford, Bulleit, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Highland Park, Old Pulteney, Bruichladdich, and then your Evan Williams and the like).

Tasted raisins, black peppercorns, orange zest, pumpernickel bread, cloves, and caramel. Not sure how available it is outside of VA but I'd recommend it highly.

Someone yelled at me for this in the last whiskey thread so I went ahead and got a few glencairns. It's one of those situations where I'm only recently starting to have nicer spirits on hand with any frequency so the thought hadn't crossed my mind before.

Am currently having the Reservoir Rye neat. It's 100 proof and 100% rye, and holy shit this is probably the most flavorful whiskey I've had (though by no means do I have a wide breadth of experienxe). Getting raisins, black peppercorns, caramel, orange zest, cloves...I dunno, there's a lot going on.

Not sure it you can get this outside of VA but if you have access to it and have 80 bucks to drop I'd definitely give it a go. Goddamn.
