I just bought the same thing and I gotta be honest I like it but not enough to take multiple pics to post

Do these beans look over roasted? They're supposed to be a medium roast but look quite dark and they're oily, which I have only seen on darker roasts. It also tastes like an ash tray. Did the roaster fuck up here? Or am I just simply too unsophisticated?
