For a pipe just get a Missouri meerschaum pipe, people seem to like the legend a lot. The smoke well, cool and are cheap as fuck.
For tobacco its hard to say I'd probs just go with straight Virginia blend like Capstan its not overly complex and is nice a sweet. Or if you want more a smokier experience try an English blend like Early morning pipe. Avoid aromatics as they burn hot and are really just a crowd pleaser because they smell nice.
