Don't blend fresh ones - buy the tinned ones. I think the only time you should use fresh ones is if you somehow acquire many ripe tomatoes.
Fresh ones have too much water and the sauce will take a lot longer to cook down as a result. The canned ones are also often put into their containers when they're at their ripest - or so the growers say.
Also get onto using tomato puree or paste either in tin or can form - and speaking of paste - chilli and/or paprika paste is really, really good in Bolognese. Grated carrots are also excellent too.
Be sure to season appropriately. Don't be afraid to use a little sugar or honey.
