Alright, I tried Taster's Choice straight black.

>269g water at 78°C
I tried to mimick the concentration you'd find in a 1:15 french press brew. It tasted hollow, under-extracted, and just plain bland. Very low bitterness, low acidity, lack of any discernible flavour, and a little oxidized. I can see the use for this in quick little milk drinks and desserts, but definitely don't recommend this for regular coffee drinking. This initial foam in pic related was a bit off-putting, but it dissipated eventually.
