I can see that. Hendricks and The Botanist are smooth but their flavors are subtle and complex. Tanqueray and Bombay are less complex but punchier and harsher. Ardbeg has some of the strongest flavors in all the spirit world so I don't know if you'll find a gin on that level. Few scotch are on that level.

If you want something that leans towards whiskey flavors I would recommend anything barrel aged. Barr Hill Tom Cat is amazing and made with raw honey and aged in oak barrels. Big Gin has a few excellent barrel aged versions.

If you want unique approaches: St. George has incredible range, their Terroir tastes like you swallowed a forest, their Dry Rye gin is made from 100% rye, and their Dry Rye Reposado takes the Dry Rye and ages it in wine barrels. Edinburgh's Cannonball lives up to it's name at navy strength (115 proof) made with szechuan peppers and lemon zest. Wood's Mountain Hopped gin uses cascade hops for bright unique flavors (think IPA notes with zero bitterness).

TheGinIsIn is my favorite source for gin reviews if you want more.
