Bad. Pretty damn bad. Not knocking her or anything, love both grandma's to death, but that's just how it is

My parents emigrated for Taiwan to America for graduate school and gave birth to me stateside. My mom knew how to cook some seriously bomb ass Chinese food. Her western food was pretty bad though, since she'd always replace parts in the recipie with healthy alternatives

My grandparents, on the other hand, grew up in a very cushy environment in mainland China. They had servants, butlers, the whole nine yards. Both grandparents were respected and rich members of the community. But then the japs invaded and destroyed everything. What my grandparents could escape with, they took to the refugee camps. That wasn't even the end though, as after the war they couldn't even go home because the fucking commies took over and decided that the generations of hard work my ancestors had put in belonged to the people. They were left literally penniless when they went over to Taiwan. I remember my grandma told me before they went over, my grandfather had sold her the diamond earrings he got for their 1 year anniversary to pay for the boat ride.

So suddenly, my grandmothers, who have never worked a day in their 25 year old lives had to suddenly find work and start doing house wife shit in Taiwan. Their cooking style is what I like to call super cheap. They couldn't afford meat ever, and had only little spices.

Meanwhile I grew up in the states again with a comfy ass upbringing, as my parents are high paid engineers, and I was super picky about the food I ate. For instance until I was like 11 I didn't eat any part of the chicken except for the skin.

I miss my mom's cooking though. Feels bad man
