My Baba (means grandma) would make Zelniķ every family gathering.
Zelnik is a comfort food dish that is 12 layers of dough with butter in between and in the very center you put a layer of filling which can be a combination of things but I used Macedonian feta (a lot creamier than regular feta) and sauteed leeks
it was her family that came from Macedonia and she was the only one who knew the recipe. it's been years since she passed and I finally tackled the recipe after lots of research.
My family loved it and is was so gratifying.
