I ate a random casino restaurant with my friends one time. My meal came back LITERALLY tasting like ash. Not just like smokey, but like ash was coating every single ingredient on the plate. Was actually disgusting. I thought I was having a stroke or some shit, requested my friends to try and they agreed. Was the only thing from a restaurant I ever sent back. I'm not sure if a cook literally dumped an ashtray into my meal or some shit, but none of the other food tasted like that.

Cauliflower cheese. My mother hated cauliflower so would never make it, because she made what she wanted, and everyone else could get fucked. Whenever my parents used to argue for hours I'd usually get dropped off at my grandmothers, and she was a baby boomer raised post war so her cooking repertoire was limited, and we learned to make new stuff together because even she was getting sick of Shephards pie every other day. I think that's where I got my love of cooking

Also, steak and kidney pudding with gravy, half chips and half fried rice. I'd get that with my dad after school, when he didn't feel like eating whatever bullshit diet my mother decided he needed this month because she's a control freak. Even other northerners look at me funny for having rice with one, but at least that's tolerated. Where I live now a steak and kidney pudding is considered disgusting beyond belief
