Russian food is delicious anon! It's very hearty and wholesome.

Some things to know:
>Lunch is the biggest meal, and restaurants often offer lunch specials. Many Russians who work in offices etc receive long lunch breaks and eat lunch at restaurants every day, especially in wealthier cities like St. Petersburg. This means that if you want to eat a big restaurant meal, the best time to do it is the early afternoon.
>Breakfast, conversely, is the smallest meal. Many Russians just eat some bread and doktorskaya (a sausage similar to bologna, you'll recognize it from its bright pink colour) or a bowl of porridge like buckwheat, semolina, etc
>Russian meals (especially lunch) typically consist of several courses. This style of serving actually came to France (and therefore Europe) from Russia. A typical lunch will have bread, soup and/or salad, a main course with meat and starches, sometimes dessert, and always some alcohol--sometimes a small pitcher of vodka, sometimes beer or wine.
>It's normal to drink every day in Russia with your meals, but not everybody gets drunk every day. Participate, but don't make a fool of yourself.

Some quick meals that locals eat:
>Frozen pelmeni/dumplings, literally the Russian equivalent of "cup noodle"-type foods eaten by broke college students on a daily basis
>Frozen kotleti/cutlets, similar to American hamburger patties but eaten with a knife and fork, often with Russian-style mayonnaise and a side of mashed potatoes
>Shashlik or kebab-style meat & pita disasters are served basically everywhere and are the most common "ethnic" food you'll find anywhere in Russia. Shashlik became popular during the USSR times and is hardly regarded as a foreign food in Russia, it's a staple of Russian barbecues everywhere.
>Sandwiches with one piece of bread, served open-faced, are very common snacks. Usually with sausages, tinned fish, hardboiled eggs or similar toppings.
